Residential Solar Hot Water Systems

Why Solar Hot Water?

The clean fuel that’s used to heat your water—sunshine—is free.

Rising energy costs, global warming, and dependence on foreign oil--these are just a few key reasons solar-powered hot water systems make sense.

Solar hot water systems have proven to be efficient and cost-effective for homeowners for many years.

Enviro Pro Tech systems can deliver up to 70 percent of annual hot water needs --and 100 percent during warmer months, from April to October. In a few years, a solar water heating system pays for itself, then the majority of your water heating bills disappear entirely while reducing your dependence on fossil fuels.

Environmental Impact
A typical household using 300 therms of natural gas per year to heat hot water can expect to prevent the escape of over 49,000 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere. Clearly, installing one of these systems can help you significantly reduce your carbon footprint.

How solar water heating works
It all starts with solar collectors that capture the sun’s energy. A food-grade glycol heat transfer fluid is pumped through tubes in the collectors, absorbing their heat. The glycol then travels through a heat exchanger and, in turn, transfers heat to the storage water. When you turn on the tap, clean, potable water passes through an additional set of coils in the tank and fills your bathtub, sink or dishwasher.

The tank is well insulated permitting long-term storage and minimizing heat loss. Something else to consider: The same storage tank can supply warm water for radiant floor heating systems and swimming pools.

Why Enviro Pro Tech Solar Equipment?

Enviro Pro Tech installs high quality solar hot water products. We carefully choose our products based on quality, reliability, system performance, system design, aesthetics, and price. We recommend our products because:

  • They are great looking products. Only the solar collectors are mounted on the roof and most look similar to home skylights.

  • Unlike a passive system many of our systems have the ability to monitor the output of the system which is leading toward carbon offset monitoring.

  • They offer superior freeze protection. While many climates don’t often have freezing periods, freezing in collectors can actually occur at 42 degrees due to radiative cooling and it just takes one freezing occurrence to damage the system.

  • In the typical residential installation only two collectors are mounted on the roof which means less weight on roof compared to ICS systems that combine the solar collectors with the storage tank on the roof. This is especially important in earthquake zones where added weight to a roof can be an issue and require additional reinforcement of the roof to meet local building codes.

  • We use closed loop systems which minimize scaling. Open loop systems use mains water as the heating fluid and this can cause scaling over time. Open loop systems can require frequent maintenance and scaling can also cause systems to fail.

  • Our systems are multi-purpose and our designed for pre-heating of water as well as space heating, air conditioning, pool heating.

  • Our solar tanks retain heat overnight very well making the most out of daytime heating.

  • The systems are well made and are designed to last for many years.

  • They are scalable and give options for adding collectors at a later date.
